No actuaba desde 1993, por lo que se confiesa 'un poco ansioso'
TORONTO (CANADÁ).- El cantante y poeta canadiense Leonard Cohen tiene previsto iniciar una gira por Canadá y EEUU en mayo para continuar en Europa durante el verano, lo que marcaría su regreso a los escenarios desde 1993.
Cohen informó de la gira, cuyos detalles serán anunciados en febrero, a través de su página oficial de Internet. En un correo electrónico enviado al periódico canadiense 'La Presse' de Montreal, su ciudad natal, Cohen señala que está "un poco ansioso".
"No he tocado la guitarra desde hace 14 años" dice el cantante, nacido el 21 de septiembre de 1934 y conocido mundialmente por canciones como 'Suzanne', 'Sisters of Mercy' o 'Hallelujah'.
Cohen también dijo que ha reunido a su banda habitual de músicos para la gira que seguramente se iniciará en la costa Atlántica de Canadá.
La gira de Cohen también podría dar a paso a un nuevo álbum, el primero desde 'Dear Heather', lanzado a finales de 2004. Aclamado como poeta, en el año 2006 publicó su último libro 'Book of Longing'.
El pasado mes de diciembre Cohen fue nombrado para formar parte del Rock and Roll Hall of Fame junto con artistas como Madonna y John Mellencamp. La ceremonia oficial se celebrará el próximo 10 de marzo en el hotel Waldorf Astoria de Nueva York.
A finales de 2005 Cohen demandó ante los tribunales a su representante durante 17 años, Kelley Lynch, y la acusó de defraudar millones de dólares, dinero ahorrado por el cantante para su jubilación. Cohen señaló que Lynch le dejó sólo con 150.000 dólares.
En 2006, los tribunales fallaron a favor del cantante canadiense y le otorgaron una indemnización de nueve millones de dólares (sus abogados habían solicitado 21,5 millones de dólares), dinero que no ha recibido.
