Storm Thorgerson nació en 1944 en Potters Bar, un pueblo inglés de Hertfordshire. y murio el 18 de abril de 2013.
Estudió un Bachelor of Arts de Inglés y Filosofía en la universidad de Leicester (1963-1966), y una maestría en Cine y Televisión en el Royal College of Art (1966-1969), donde finalmente se especializaría en Fotografía y Diseño Gráfico.
Fue en Cambridge, donde cursó la educación secundaria antes de partir hacia el mundo universitario, donde conoció y se hizo amigo de Syd Barrett, David Gilmour y Roger Waters, que posteriormente formarían parte de Pink Floyd.
Sus diseños más conocidos fueron los que realizó para Pink Floyd y, en particular, la realizada para su álbum Dark Side of the Moon. También trabajó con otros grupos como Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Genesis, Europe, Dream Theater, The Cranberries, The Mars Volta, Muse y Biffy Clyro.
