Mundial Sudafrica 2010
La Copa Mundial de la FIFA Sudáfrica 2010™ (FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™, en inglés) será la XIX edición de la Copa Mundial de Fútbol. Esta edición del torneo se llevará a cabo en Sudáfrica, entre el 11 de junio y el 11 de julio de 2010, siendo la primera vez que este torneo es disputado en África y por quinta ocasión en el Hemisferio Sur.
204 de las 208 asociaciones nacionales adheridas a la FIFA se inscribieron para participar en el proceso de clasificación realizado entre mediados de 2007 y fines de 2009 para poder determinar a los 32 equipos participantes en la fase final del torneo.[1] El campeonato estará compuesto de dos fases: en la primera, se conformarán 8 grupos de 4 equipos cada uno, avanzando a la siguiente ronda los dos mejores de cada grupo. Los 16 equipos clasificados se enfrentarán posteriormente en partidos eliminatorios hasta que los dos equipos finalistas se enfrenten en la final a realizarse en el estadio Soccer City de Johannesburgo.
ZAKUMI la mascota del mundial Sudafrica 2010
Su nombre es " Zakumi ", un leopardo diseñado en Sudáfrica.
Un leopardo de nombre " Zakumi " fue presentado hoy como la mascota oficial de la Copa del Mundo Sudáfrica 2010 durante un programa de televisión, a 626 días del inicio del magno torneo futbolístico.
Las primeras dos letras del nombre de la mascota hacen alusión a Sudáfrica, mientras que el resto, "kumi" significa 10, en varios idiomas africanos.
Según los organizadores, al leopardo, que fue totalmente diseñado y producido en el país anfitrión, se le pintó el cabello de color verde para camuflagearse con el césped de la cancha de futbol.
Jér“me Valcke, secretario general de la FIFA, aseguró que a "Zakumi" le fue otorgada una identidad y un nombre que evocan las aspiraciones e historia del país sede de la próxima Copa del Mundo de futbol.
"Zakumi representa al pueblo, la geografía y el espíritu sudafricanos y personifica la esencia de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2010. Estamos seguros de que nos divertirá en los preparativos y durante la Copa FIFA Confederaciones y la Copa Mundial", indicó.
Los organizadores afirmaron que el leopardo nació en 1994, año en que se diluyó el apartheid o régimen de discriminación política, económica, social y racial implantada por los colonizadores holandeses en Sudáfrica.
La primera mascota creada para un Mundial de futbol fue un león llamado "Willie", el cual animó a los aficionados para el torneo de Inglaterra en 1966.

El balón oficial con que se jugará el campeonato será el modelo Jabulani, fabricado por la marca Adidas. El Jabulani (que significa "celebrar" en zulú), diseñado por la Universidad de Loughborough del Reino Unido, tiene 11 colores que representan los 11 jugadores de cada equipo, los 11 idiomas oficiales de Sudáfrica y las 11 comunidades sudafricanas que darán la bienvenida al mundo del primer Mundial de fútbol que tiene lugar en África.
