Senadora humana representante del planeta Chandrila. Sirvió al Senado Galáctico durante varios años. Tras declararse el Imperio, fue una de sus primeros opositores junto con Padmé Amidala y Bail Organa. Así fue como Mon Mothma se convirtió en la líder de la Alianza Rebelde, la cual luchó contra el Imperio durante décadas, hasta que en Endor, destruyeron a la Segunda Estrella de la Muerte y al Emperador Palpatine.
Tras la derrota del Imperio se convirtió en la canciller de la Nueva República.
