This guide is aimed at helping you narrow down your options since it contains a list to consider when making your first telescope purchase followed by our recommendations.
Strength and Size:
Each and every has its own strengths. For instance, a small Alt-Azimuth Mount models are the best choice for a quick trip to the backyard looking at Planets and the Moon. Some are lighter to carry and move around while others such as large computer controlled models are heavy and will take a few trips in order to get everything outside. Consider carefully when deciding the size of your first , is it too big to store in the house? Is it too heavy to carry? This is known as the 'speed' of a telescope's optics, by dividing the focal length by the aperture. The smaller the f/number the lower the magnification and the wider the field of view thus the brighter the image through the eyepiece.
