Biografía de Black Sabbath: CRONOLOGÍA Y
HISTORIA
Formada en Birmingham, Inglaterra, en 1968, la banda Black Sabbath fue pionera en el lanzamiento de las bases del naciente heavy metal que asaltó al rock en los años 70 y 80 . La manera violenta de tocar, y sus letras sanguinárias, machistas, místicas y ante todo sinceras con la realidad del mundo, se tomaron como modelo para numerosos grupos futuros.
Su álbum homónimo de 1970 continua siendo uno de los más innovativos e influyentes de la historia del rock. Un cuarteto compuesto por Ozzy Osbourne (vocalista),Tony Iommi (guitarrista), Geezer Butler (bajista) y Bill Ward (baterista), y que inicialmente se llamó Polka Tulk y más tarde Earth.
Tomaron por asalto el circuito de pubs y clubes de su ciudad natal, con mucha energía, blues y rock. Compañeros de escuela y vecinos en Birmingham, el grupo ganó muchos seguidores en Inglaterra, en 1968 cambiaron su nombre a Black Sabbath. Un nuevo nombre que describía la imagen oscura, pesada y mística de la banda, y a su gusto por temas sobrenaturales y místicos.
En 1969 entraron en estúdio para grabar su primer disco. El álbum Black Sabbath llegó al Top Ten británico, donde permaneció por tres meses y consiguió, para la banda, un grupo de fans fervorosos en ambos lados del Atlántico. Un gran salto para la banda ocurrió con la grabaçión de Paranoid, un álbum pionero del heavy metal. Contando con los riffs cortantes de guitarra de Iommi, los juegos vocales siniestros de Ozzy y la base rítmica de Butler y Ward, Paranoid alcanzó una mejor posición en los charts ingleses y llegó a una posición similar en América, en donde permaneció por mas de un año, ganando disco de platino.
Fue un acontecimiento para la naciente escena heavy inglesa. Master of Reality, el tercer álbum de Black Sabbath, fué lanzado en agosto de 1971. Entre otras canciones estaban algunas que se volvieron marcas registradas de la banda, como Children of the Grave o Sweet Leaf. Más tarde Black Sabbath grabó un álbum llamado Vol. 4 en el início de 1972 en el estudio Record Plant, en Los Angeles. We Sold Our Soul For Rock and Roll fue una demoledora producción, compuesta de 14 temas, todos clásicos del hard rock y el heavy metal. Se trata de una recopilación que es una excelente muestra de la carrera da banda, desde el primer álbum hasta Sabotage. Technical Ecstasy es uno de los más inventivos y originales álbumes de estudio de Black Sabbath. Tres composiciones típicas de la banda, como Back Street Kids, Gypsy, Rock 'N' Roll Doctor y la principal del LP, Dirty Women. La formación de esa época estaba constituída de Tony Iommi, Tony Martin (vocals), Dave Spitz, Bob Daisley (bass),Bev Bevan (percusión) y Eric Singer (bateria, que mas tarde iría para Kiss). Ray Gillen aparentemente grabó este álbum y salió antes de que fuese lanzado. Tony Martin regrabó las voces. En 1989, Black Sabbath lanzó Headless Cross, con grandes hits como Devil and Daughter, When Death Calls y Black Moon. La formación estaba compuesta por Tony Iommi, Tony Martin, Cozy Powell (bateria) y Laurance Cottle (bajo). Laurance Cottle mas tarde fué substituído por Neil Murray.
En 1990, veintidos años despues de formado Black Sabbath, fué grabado TYR en un nuevo estilo iniciado en 1987 con The Eternal Idol. Algunos temas destacados de este álbum fueron Anno Mundi, Jerusalem, The Sabbath Stones y la balada Feels Good to Me. 1992 fué un momento histórico para Black Sabbath. Hubo una reunión de Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice y Tony Iommi. El álbum Dehumanizer fué aguardado y aclamado por todos. Algunos de sus hits fueron Time Machine, TV Crimes, Master of Insanity y Sins Of The Father. Time Machine fué parte de la banda sonora del filme Wayne's World (Cuanto Mas Idiota Mejor).
En 1994 Black Sabbath lanzó su décimo octavo álbum, Cross Purposes que entre otros hits incluiría temas como I Witness, Cross of Thorns, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Immaculate Deception y Psychophobia. La formación de la banda consistia de Tony Martin, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi y Bobb Rondinelli (bateria). En 1995, Black Sabbath lanzó Forbidden, como piezas destacadas están The Illusion of Power, Get a Grip, Shaking Off The Chains y Sick and Tired. La banda estaba formada por Tony Martin, Neil Murray (bajo), Tony Iommi e Cozy Powell (bateria).
Cozzy Powel dejó la banda en medio del tour americano y fué sustituído por Bobby Rondinelli. En ese mismo año un suceso histórico tuvo lugar; en un concierto de Ozzy aparecieron sobre el escenario, luego de largo rato de ruptura por problemas personales, los antiguos integrantes de la banda, Tommy, Bill, y Gezeer Butler volvieron a tocar junto con su primer cantante. Un reencuentro en verdad emocionante, y que esperanzo a la escena de la música mundial con una posible reunificación de una de las bandas más subversivas, escandalosas, creadoras y sublimes en este genero. Algo que se haría real cuando en el año 98 se anunció la grabacion de un nuevo album, con algunas versiones en vivo y algunos temas inéditos titulado "REUNION", realizado despues de unas cuantas presentaciones en el OZZFEST. Black Sabbath, junto con Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin y Uriah Heep, son la quintaesencia del Rock de los años setenta y son los creadores del heavy metal.
La banda se formó en 1968, compuesta por el cantante John Ozzy Osbourne, el guitarrista Frank Anthony Tony Iommi, el bajista Terence Geezer Butler y el baterista William Bill Ward.
Fueron los pioneros del Metal, haciendo de ello aquella clase de género, sombrío y pesado, además de llevar el tema de la brujería más allá de ciertos límites considerados hasta ese momento (1968).

Durante la gira americana Glen Hughes salió, siendo substituído por Ray Gillen. En 1987 Black Sabbath lanzó su décimo cuarto álbum, The Eternal Idol, que tuvo gran suceso y temas como Shining, Hard Life to Love, Born to Lose y Lost Forever.
La formación de esa época estaba constituída de Tony Iommi, Tony Martin (vocals), Dave Spitz, Bob Daisley (bass),Bev Bevan (percusión) y Eric Singer (bateria, que mas tarde iría para Kiss). Ray Gillen aparentemente grabó este álbum y salió antes de que fuese lanzado. Tony Martin regrabó las voces. En 1989, Black Sabbath lanzó Headless Cross, con grandes hits como Devil and Daughter, When Death Calls y Black Moon. La formación estaba compuesta por Tony Iommi, Tony Martin, Cozy Powell (bateria) y Laurance Cottle (bajo). Laurance Cottle mas tarde fué substituído por Neil Murray.
En 1990, veintidos años despues de formado Black Sabbath, fué grabado TYR en un nuevo estilo iniciado en 1987 con The Eternal Idol. Algunos temas destacados de este álbum fueron Anno Mundi, Jerusalem, The Sabbath Stones y la balada Feels Good to Me. 1992 fué un momento histórico para Black Sabbath. Hubo una reunión de Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice y Tony Iommi. El álbum Dehumanizer fué aguardado y aclamado por todos. Algunos de sus hits fueron Time Machine, TV Crimes, Master of Insanity y Sins Of The Father. Time Machine fué parte de la banda sonora del filme Wayne's World (Cuanto Mas Idiota Mejor).
En 1994 Black Sabbath lanzó su décimo octavo álbum, Cross Purposes que entre otros hits incluiría temas como I Witness, Cross of Thorns, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Immaculate Deception y Psychophobia. La formación de la banda consistia de Tony Martin, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi y Bobb Rondinelli (bateria). En 1995, Black Sabbath lanzó Forbidden, como piezas destacadas están The Illusion of Power, Get a Grip, Shaking Off The Chains y Sick and Tired. La banda estaba formada por Tony Martin, Neil Murray (bajo), Tony Iommi e Cozy Powell (bateria).
Cozzy Powel dejó la banda en medio del tour americano y fué sustituído por Bobby Rondinelli. En ese mismo año un suceso histórico tuvo lugar; en un concierto de Ozzy aparecieron sobre el escenario, luego de largo rato de ruptura por problemas personales, los antiguos integrantes de la banda, Tommy, Bill, y Gezeer Butler volvieron a tocar junto con su primer cantante. Un reencuentro en verdad emocionante, y que esperanzo a la escena de la música mundial con una posible reunificación de una de las bandas más subversivas, escandalosas, creadoras y sublimes en este genero. Algo que se haría real cuando en el año 98 se anunció la grabacion de un nuevo album, con algunas versiones en vivo y algunos temas inéditos titulado "REUNION", realizado despues de unas cuantas presentaciones en el OZZFEST. El concierto inaugural de la gira llamada
Black Sabbath, junto con Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin y Uriah Heep, son la quintaesencia del Rock de los años setenta y son los creadores del heavy metal.
La banda se formó en 1968, compuesta por el cantante John Ozzy Osbourne, el guitarrista Frank Anthony Tony Iommi, el bajista Terence Geezer Butler y el baterista William Bill Ward.
Fueron los pioneros del Metal, haciendo de ello aquella clase de género, sombrío y pesado, además de llevar el tema de la brujería más allá de ciertos límites considerados hasta ese momento (1968).

Ozzy Osbourne fue despedido de la banda en 1979 para ser reemplazado por Ronnie James Dio, antiguo vocalista de Rainbow. Sin embargo, Black Sabbath vio cómo, a lo largo de las décadas de 1980 y 1990, pasaron cuatro vocalistas más: Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen y Tony Martin. La alineación original se reunió en 1997 y publicó un álbum en directo, Reunion, cuya canción « Iron Man» ganó el premio Grammy en 2000, treinta años después de su publicación original en Paranoid.
