Señal Wow! El radio telescopio Big Ear de la universidad de Ohio captó, en 1977, una señal durante un minuto aproximadamente que superaba en unas treinta veces al ruido de fondo. La señal no se grabó, solo quedó registrada por un ordenador que iba imprimiendo las señales en papel. Unos días más tarde, Jerry Ehman, un profesor de la universidad de Ohio que estaba trabajando como voluntario en el proyecto S.E.T.I., revisando como de costumbre lo que se había registrado días antes, descubrió atónito la intensa señal, que pasó a llamarse la señal Wow! al ser lo que marcó en el papel cuando la descubrió.
