Michel Gondry nació en Versalles, Francia, el 8 de mayo de 1963. Su carrera como director comenzó con videos para la banda francesa Oui Oui, donde tambien tocaba la bateria. Su estilo llamó la atención de Bjork, quien lo contrató para hacer el video de la canción Human Behavior. La colaboración se extendio por años, Gondry dirigió siete videos para la Islandesa. Otros artistas que se asociaron con él son: Daft Punk, The White Stripes, The Chemical Brothers, The Vines, Steriogram, Radiohead, y Beck. Michel Gondry tambien hizo muchisimas publicidades para TV. Es el pionero del "Bullet Time", tecnica mas tarde adaptada por los hermanos Wachowski, directores de Matrix. Exponente de la influencia de los videos musicales en los largometrajes, Gondry tituló su primer pelicula "Human Nature" (2001). Su segunda pelicula, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" se estrenó en el 2004 con excelentes criticas. En ella manipula las las imagenes con las mismas tecnicas con las que experimentó en los video clips. La pelicula ganó un Oscar por su guión. Su siguiente largometraje es un documental sobre la presentación del comediante Dave Chappelle ante una basta audiencia en un show gratuito en un barrio de Brooklyn. Su cuarto film marca su vuelta a la ficcion y al surrealismo visual. "The Science of Sleep" protagonizada por Gael Garcia Bernal se estrenó en Septiembre de 2007. Su filmografia continua con "Be Kind Rewind" Con Jack Black a estrenarse en el 2008. De acuerdo al Libro Guinness de los records edicion 2004, el comercial "drugstore" de Levi´s hecho por él es el comercial mas premiado de la historia.
